I am the data controller for the information described here.
I did not collect this from you directly, so I'm required to tell you where it came from. Sources are:
My lawful basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): my interest in offering a relevant service to a business that appears likely to benefit from it. I've weighed that against your privacy: I use business rather than personal contact details wherever possible, I contact each business a maximum of three times, and I stop permanently the moment anyone asks.
For electronic marketing I rely on the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, which permit unsolicited business-to-business email to corporate subscribers such as limited companies and LLPs. I do not send marketing email to sole traders or unincorporated partnerships without consent.
When you check a website, I keep the address you typed in, the results, and the business name and email address if you gave them. If you ticked the box asking me to get in touch, I also keep a record of that and the exact words you agreed to, so I can show you asked. My lawful basis for contacting you is that consent; you can withdraw it at any time by telling me to stop. If you didn't tick the box, I won't contact you.
To stop the checker being misused, a scrambled (hashed) version of your internet address is kept for up to two days, then deleted. Everything else about a check is deleted after 6 months, unless we go on to work together.
Nobody, other than the service providers that operate the system on my behalf: an email delivery provider, a database and server hosting provider, a web hosting provider that serves the example page, a messaging provider used to notify me of replies, and a service that checks phone numbers against the Telephone Preference Service registers before I ring anyone. I do not sell or trade contact details.
You can ask me to:
Just reply to my email, or write to the address above. There's no form and no process: one line is enough, and I'll confirm when it's done.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or by calling their helpline on 0303 123 1113. I'd rather you told me first so I can put it right.
